Things to do

Surf is the no.1 thing to do in Baleal - even if you have never tried we recommend giving it a go! However, if its not for you, fear not, you can enjoy the nature, food and many other activities in the local area.

Surfer

Surf

Baleal beach is 4km long and you can find waves ranging from beginner, intermediate to advanced. On top of this, we also have two other local surf beaches in walking distance: Lagide and Almagreira. There are plenty of surfschools to choose from but we highly recommend Happy Days - Audrey and Luis are fantastic instructors and super lovely people!

If you prefer to watch the action, checkout the Pros riding Barrels at Supertubos where the World Surf League is held every March.

Join a Sunset Yoga session after work/surf with our lovely friend Caro (@Element.Wasser).

In addition, Alma Yoga Studios is a 1 minute walk from Mysa who provide a range of yoga or functional workout classes.

If you want to do Yoga or workout in your own space you can use the Garage gym area free of charge (Mysa Guests only).

SurfSkate:

Many people SurfSkate here so bring your board or rent one from a local board shop. If you want lessons we can also recommend a great instructor who does weekly group lessons for all levels.

WindSurf:

Surf is the no.1 sport here but you can also find WindSurfers on the very windy days. There are several schools in the area that you can choose from.

Golf

The Local Golf course is Praia Del Rey (15 minute drive from Mysa).

Cycle:

There are many places to rent bikes and it's a great way to get around. Dirt Bike tracks are also nearby.

Live Music

Live Music is very popular in the area, and quite often we go to watch some of the fantastic artists play. Ricle and Washed Up are the usual spots. In the summer, you can find small concerts on the beach every Thursday.

Day Trips

Obidos.jpg

Obidos

This charming, picturesque town is located 20km (20 minute drive) from Mysa. It's Medieval architecture; streets, squares, shops and castle are a popular tourist destination.  Every July there is a Medieval festival here, which is well worth a visit. Visitors in December should also check out the wonderful Christmas market with various entertainment (magic shows, circus acts) - a must see if you are visiting this time of year.

Berlinga.jpg

Berlenga Island

Take a boat trip from Peniche (8 min drive from Mysa) to Berlenga Islands. A protected nature reserve. Enjoy Hiking, Snorkeling, Diving, Swimming and Bird Watching.

Nazare.jpg

Nazare

50 mins driving from Mysa, Nazaré is one of the most impressive places in the world if you love surfing, or you just want to see some extraordinary waves that can reach up to 30 meters (100 ft) in height. Storms on the high seas produce big swells, and the Nazaré Canyon amplifies these to the biggest waves you will ever see. While they can’t be seen all the time, they do appear quite a lot during the winter season in Portugal (Oct - Mar)

Porto

Lisbon (1 hr drive from Mysa) is the Capital of Portugal and has been voted one of the top cities to visit in Europe. It is also one of the most affordable cities, offering value for money for food, drink and public transport. Our Personal recommendation would be to visit Rossio square where you can have a great meal al fresco whilst enjoying the stunning architecture and sea views.

Ericeira is a 40 minute drive from Mysa. It's another Fishing town with many surf spots. Take a walk around the Old town, with it's cobbled streets, restaurants, cafes and shops.

One of the oldest in Europe, Porto’s old town in the city center is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996! It is no surprise that Porto is a city with a rich history and culture.

Home to Port wine, street art, and “francesinhas”, Porto is one of the world’s top 100 cities, receiving over 1m visitors each year.

This city is a little further afield (2.5 hrs drive from Mysa) but worth a visit at some point if you are in Portugal for a long trip.
